About This Item
New York: Bellevue Literary Press, NYU School of Medicine, 2008. Hardcover. Near Fine/near fine. Rinzler, Lisa (Photographer). Second printing. 205pgs. including an Index. Black & white photographs with several color photographs. This copy signed by Darby Penney on the title page. At the closing of the Willard Psychiatric Center in 1995, after 126 years of operation, more than 400 suitcases of patients' belongings were found in the hospital attic. In this book "...the contents of ten of these suitcases are skillfully examined and compared to the written record to create a moving -- and devastating -- group portrait of 20th century American psychiatric care."
