London: Chatto & Windus, 1881. New Edition. 360 pages. Publisher's maroon cloth with decorative black stamping to front and spine, and spine titles in gilt. Only mild shelfwear to cloth extremities. Spine has modest sunning and a slight lean. Scattered light foxing to endpapers and prelims, with some offsetting to rear endpapers. Solid hinges and bright, unmarked pages. A clean, near fine example of this title.. Decorative Cloth. Very Good +/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
Synopsis
King Solomon's Mines (1885) is a popular novel by the Victorian adventure writer and fabulist, Sir H. Rider Haggard. It tells of a search of an unexplored region of Africa by a group of adventurers led by Allan Quatermain for the missing brother of one of the party. It is the first English fictional adventure novel set in Africa, and is considered the genesis of the Lost World literary genre.
