Boston: Roberts Brothers, 1870. Early printings. Cloth over boards. Duodecimos. 341 (+ads) and 359 (+ads) pages. Very good condition. Both volumes have been expertly rebacked, retaining the spines, boards, and endpapers. Bound in brick red cloth over boards with gilt-stamped spines and upper boards. Modest extremity rubs. Bindings solid.. Black and white illlustrations. The classic coming-of-age novel about four sisters in New England during the Civil War, by Louisa May Alcott. These are early printings of both volumes, within a year of each one's first printing. The first volume has no statement of "Part One" on the spine, and does have the note regarding publication of "Part Second" on page 341. Second volume has "Part Second" on the spine and the note regarding "Part First" on page iv. A very appealing and sturdy set of this American literary classic.

Ref. BAL 158 & 159.
