About This Item

London: Constable and Company, 1911. First edition. Illustrated with colour plates and a profusion of half-tone plates and drawings throughout. 8vo, publisher's original brown cloth gilt lettered on the spine, with a colour pictorial paste-down to the upper cover with columns adjacent in black, t.e.g. xv, 360 pp. A very fine, bright copy. FIRST EDITION. A wonderful copy of this book, a journey in twenty-four chapters. The author, however, makes little mention of Genoa, Florence, Naples, Venice, or Rome, instead traveling "to the hills, the deep-bosomed rolling hills, with their valleys and their plains and with towered cities riding on their crests," to such places as Arezzo, Cortona, Perugia, Assisi, Gubbio, Ancona, Loreto, Ravenna, and other less-travelled spots.
