Little Obelia and Further Adventures of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie
by GIBBS, May

- Hardcover
Sydney: Angus & Robertson, 1938. GIBBS, May. An early edition of one of Australia's classic children's tales. In 1918 May Gibbs had published the first of her famous Gumnut classics, Snugglepot and Cuddlepie, and the response to her characters was so overwhelming that she continued the Gumnut adventures in further books. Little Obelia is the third in the series: Cuddlepie makes the journey under the sea to find and rescue Ragged Blossom, whilst Snugglepot lives out his particular adventure with Mr. Lizard. "The illustrations show remarkable ingenuity on the part of the artist, who has given a personality to a number of familiar Australian plants and animals...and all the grumpy grown-ups will enjoy them too" (Sydney Mail, quoted by Walsh, May Gibbs, p. 128.). Small quarto, original decorated papered boards, colour frontispiece and sepia plates, mild preliminary foxing; a great copy in a rubbed dust-jacket with some tape-marks.
