As per usual, a fine and accessible lesson in art history in the form of little artist biographical monographs, bound in a flexible suede over boards, sharply and deeply gilt-stamped brown leather label to front cover. Chapters devoted to Michael Angelo, to Rembrandt, Rubens, Meissonier, Titian, Anthony van Dyck, Fortuny, Ary Scheffer, Jean-Francois Millet, Joshua Reynolds, Landseer and Gustave Dore. top edges gilt and fore- and bottoms edges rough-cut. Roughly 24-page biographies of each painter, with black-and-white reproductions of their best works, many with tissue-guards. Some pages present but detached or partially so, mostly up-front. Slight forward cock to spine. Stated First American Edition.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards.
