About This Item
New York: The Macmillian Company, 1941. First Edition, First Printing. Hardcover with Dust Jacket. Very Good/Near Fine. Illustrations by Frank Dobias. Burnt-orange cloth covered boards with brown titles and front decoration. 7 by 6.75 inches.
The bindings are tight and square. Text clean, light even toning. Moderate shelf handling wear with scuffing on the front paste down and a blue mark on the rear board. The dust jacket with the price of $1:00 has a hint of age toning. No tears or chips.
Handsome and collectible. In both text and pictures (by Frank Dobias) this book is very successful in catching the feel of an old folk tale.
The Little Brown Hen had invited her friend the Rabbit to dinner. On the way the rabbit fell in with Red Fox, and in terror of his own life, betrayed his friend and let the fox take bits of white fur in an effort to disguise himself and so get into the house of the little hen. Fortunately, the pet in the chimney gives warning and the woodsman saves the day.
