This is a nice condition lot of 6 volumes of "LITTELL'S LIVING AGE" from 1850-1851. Littell's Living Age was a magazine comprising selections from various British and American magazines and newspapers. Generally, the magazine was published on a weekly basis, and was in print from 1844 to 1941.
The issues contain reviews, articles and announcements about emerging literary works of the time - here are a few examples: The Works of Edgar Allan Poe, "The Authors of Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights and Agnes Gray," Nathaniel Hawthorne "The Scarlet Letter", Ralph Waldo Emerson "Representative Men", Herman Melville "White Jacket" and "Omoo - A Narrative of Adventures in the South Seas", the Letters of Benjamin Franklin, Charles Dickens' "Household Words" weekly publication, The Works of John Adams, Hans Christian Andersen "Jenny Lind".
Each issue is loaded with poetry and articles on a variety of interesting topics, such as: Baloon Explosion, Death of James Fenimore Cooper, Insect Life, Ascent of Mont Blanc, Quakerism, Whale Sinks a Ship, Appearances after Death, Australian Squatter's Life, Duelling in England, George III's Library, Horse Beef in Austria, Right of Inventors, Microscope and its Marvels, Anatomy of Old Age, Evening with Voltaire, African Hunting Life, Cotton, Coffee and the Coffee Trade, Electric Telegraph Fails in England, Fulton's First Steam Voyage, Female Doctors, Indian Games, Eternity, Death of Infants, Forms of Salutation, Wordsworth's Grave, Martineau and Mesmerism, Powers.

Condition:
Overall the lot is in very good condition. The covers are clean with no stains; volume XXVII has a few small scuffs on the back cover; small tears to the top and bottom edges of the spines; light wear to a few of the corner tips; bright gilt lettering and designs on all spines. The text pages are in excellent condition - clean and white with some foxing here and there to some miscellaneous pages, but very sporadic (heavier foxing to some of the end papers); no tears or writing found. All volumes are tightly bound with no cracks and no loose pages found. Light soiling to some of the text block edges. Owner's label affixed to front pastedown of volumes XXVIII, XXIX and XXXI. Notes written in pen or pencil on front end paper of volumes XXV and XXVI.
