London: Max Parrish, 1955. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. Signed by Author. (London: Max Parrish and Co Ltd 1955). First UK Edition. SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR, THE ILLUSTRATOR, THE COMPOSER, THE DIRECTOR OF THE STAGE PLAY AND THE DECEMBER 1955 CAST OF THE ARTS THEATRE PRODUCTION IN LONDON (INCLUDING RONNIE BARKER). Publisher's blue boards with gilt lettering to the spine and with gilt vignette to the front board matching the design from the back panel of the D/W. Map end-papers to the front and rear. A lovely near fine copy in a VG+ un-clipped D/W. Inscribed by the Author on the title page to the highly-respected English actress Nora Nicholson (1892-1973): "To Nora Nicholson/ With very best wishes/ and gratitude/ Angela Ainley Jeans". Also inscribed by the Illustrator (Disley Jones): "and affection and admiration/ from Disley Jones". In addition inscribed by the Director of the Stage Production at the 1955 Arts Theatre in London, Peter Hall: "Thank you very much,/ dear Nora/ Love/ Peter Hall". Vivian Ellis, the renowned English Composer inscribed: "Nora Nicholson/ with the/ Composer's admiration/ Dec. 1955/ Vivian Ellis". In addition to the above inscriptions there 14 further inscriptions from cast members including a young RONNIE BARKER: "and from the gypsy who/ warned you!/ Ronnie Barker". A unique copy and exceedingly scarce with these attributes. Peter Hall went on, of course, to become Director of the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre.
