About This Item
This story is about a brother and sister, Bertha & Charlie Archer, orphans. It begins in Boston and appears to follow them through life.
This book has blue cloth over boards and has an elaborate decorative design with books in the center impressed on the front. It is accented with black and orange. There is more design on the spine with a block of rubbed gold gilt with the title in the blue cover color. There are black and white illustrations scattered throughout the book.
Fair condition. Spine and corners have much rubbing and wear, edges are not as bad. Both front and back end papers have split. Front end paper has inscription to Olive J. Rice from Grandma Rice in ink with a date in pencil underneath that might be: 1854 or 1894. Book pages have age tanned, but text is clean and binding is good except pages 275-283 have pulled away a little bit at the top, but not enough to be loose.
446 pages.
