Cincinnati: Press of S.C. Higbee, 1917. 31p., staplebound chapbook, inscribed by the author, with a photo of the author mounted on the verso of the front free endpaper, her name penciled below; "From Mazie Earhart 1918" penciled on back cover. Touch of rust to the staples. Though the existence of this first chapbook by the African American author is known, as it was recorded in the copyright entries for 1917, we find no holdings in OCLC and no examples in the trade. The author took the married name of Clark and published later as Mazie Earhart Clark, but according to Mary Anne Stewart Boelcskevy, she worked as a podiatrist in Cincinnati under her original name of Earhart. Her poetry includes much on religious themes (she was a devout Baptist), and many dialect poems set in the South. Boelcskevy has written about the author and her later collection, "Garden of Memories," in "Voices in the Poetic Tradition," GK Hall and Co., 1996.
