David Wilson. Glasgow. 1867. Large thick 4to. lxiv, 440, 224pp + cx. Making 838 pages in total. Two volumes bound in one. An especially attractive edition with wonderful examples of early chromo-litho colour printing. Coloured portrait frontis, extra coloured frontis. opp. portrait with five scenes from Burns's life displayed in a heraldic way. Five coloured plates, two sepia facsimiles, one pull-out coloured table of accounts, all so very real. 1 map of Scotland and 20 plates in b/w with added engravings in text, for example, Burns's nursing chair. Bound in half nineteenth century tan calf gilt, professionally rebacked with spine laid down, new lettering piece in black morocco, marbled edges and e/ps. Some light age spotting o/w a glorious copy of this life enriching and very readable set handsomely bound in one volume.
