About This Item

(no place: The Women's Association of the Presbyterian Church of Southern Africa, 1988). 210 x 150 mm; saddle-stitched wrappers; pp. (ii) + 36; some illustrations. Slight trace of silverfish attention to edges of wrappers; occasional fox spot. Very good condition. "Dr. Jane Waterston has a place in the medical history of South Africa, having been the first woman to practice in the community here. When I set out to write about her life, faced with articles written by a number of people, it seemed to me proper to write about the background to her medical practice, as this was in line with my own experience, including midwifery practice in a rural town where there were no trained midwives - a similar situation to that of Dr. Jane in Cape Town in last century." .
