About This Item

Austin: The Steck Company, Publishers, 1958. Book. Illus. by Elizabeth Rice. N-Fine. Hardcover. First Edition/First Printing. A square solid tight carefully read, if at all copy, of this facsimilie reproduction of the True First Edition published in 1888 by the Pictorial Bureau of the Press in Philadelphia. 260 pages, prox, of photos, paintings and text. Black cloth covered boards, binding show virtually no wear. This is a facsimile of the original edition, even includes errors such as page numbers starting with the number 25 and also includes two facing illustrations following the Victor Rose dedication. A better paper was used in this edition and 5 original water colors by Elizabeth Rice have been added along with a section of photos of the General. Ben McCulloch served at San Jacinto, he was in the Congress of the Republic, he was the foremost Ranger with Zachary Taylor in Mexico. This is a story of Texas from 1836 to 1862. It seems that this edition was never meant for sale, was produced by the publisher as Christmas gifts although it is not clear to whom or how many were produced. The book has a short brocure, provided by the publisher, laid in as issued explaining the history of both editions. This copy has a clear vinyl jacket with some light rubbing wear which I can only imagine was included with the book when published. The slipcase is covered in black cloth, has some very light rubbing wear, some minor edgewear. A very nice copy, very much gift quality..
