London: John Fairburn, 1822. First edition. Hardcover. Near fine. Illustrated by George Cruikshank. 8vo. xxiv,489,(3)pp. Half title and 'Directions to Binder" leaves are present. Full red polished calf by Riviere. Spine in six compartments, intricately gilt; morocco lettering labels, gilt; gilt rules on the boards and gilt inner dentelles. All edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. Faint trace of rubbing at the hinges and darkening along the top else this is a near fine copy.


Illustrated with twenty-one colored plates by Cruikshank, along with twenty-two vignettes of wood engraving. Tipped onto a preliminary blank is a card beaing the bold signature of George Cruikshank dated June 14, 1869.


First state. The binder's leaf bears the 'Marchant' imprint at the bottom. Cohn #109. Jerrold, pp. 351-352.
