Scarce first edition of this publication. Half black morocco over marbled boards, and 5 raised bands and gilt particulars to spine. Top edge gilt; marbled endpapers. Hors texte plates with tissue guards throughout. No previous owners' names or other markings. Occasional foxing. Vol. 1 is organized into 3 books, and each subsequent volume with the following books: Birth, Youth and Education; The Italian Insurrection; and, Arenenberg. Vol. 2: Between Strasburg and Boulogne; Ham; The Revolution of 1848. Vol. 3: The Presidency; The Coup d'Etat; Establishment of the Empire. Vol. 4: The Crimean War; Italian Independence; Home Policy; Home Affairs; 1870. Light wear to edges of marbled boards. Please expect extra postage for foreign orders. Each: 6 x 8 3/4 inches.
