Boston:Charles C. Little and James Brown, 1843. First Edition. hard cover. Very Good/No jacket. Boston:Charles C. Little and James Brown. 1843. In two volumes. xii+412pp and xi+427pp. 1st edition. Hardcovers. Original binding with embossed designs on covers, lightly soiled but gilt on spine still bright. Rear board of volume 1 is mottled and both volumes have the top two edge points gentle bumped. Internally, both volumes have a previous owners bookplate to the inside front board as well as his name penciled to the top of the title page. Both tissue guards on frontispiece's are age toned with some off set to title pages, but otherwise pages are clean and bright. No other foxing/age toning found. A very good clean set. * From Wikipedia..."The author was a Scottish 19th century travel writer best known for her 1843 account, LIFE IN MEXICO, which is widely regarded by historians as one of the most influential Latin American travel narratives of the 19th century. She moved to mexico in 1839 when her husband, the Spanish minister of the United States, became the Spanish minister to Mexico as part of Spain's attempt to recognize Mexico's independence. They resided in Mexico the the next two years, during which she wrote the letters that would eventually comprise this book..."
