Lamar, a boyhood friend of Woodrow Wilson in Georgia, served on that state's supreme court, 1901-1905, before being nominated to fill an associate justice's position by President William Howard Taft; he served in that capacity from 1911 until his death. Very good. Original gilt-stamped navy cloth, printed paper spine label, printed dust jacket (chipped). (#8311).

First edition, 1926, hardcover with blue cloth boards with paper title band in dust jacket, octavo, 284pp., frontispiece and illustrated in b&w. Book near fine with mild rubbing and edgewear to boards, binding tight, text clean and unmarked, with handsome gilt to top edge of textblock. DJ good with edgewear that includes a small tear to spine head that extends across face of spine, rubbing and soil.
