The fourth revised edition in half calf binding on cloth boards of The Life of George Stephenson, Railway Engineer by Samuel Smiles.Biography of George Stephenson, a British civil and mechanical engineer, known as the 'Father of Railways'. Smiles' praised his achievements and saw him as many others in the Victorian era as a great example of self improvement and diligence.Samuel Smiles was an author and government reformer who believed in libertarian economics. Includes a monochrome plate as the frontispiece with a tissue guard.With gold fore edges. In half calf binding over cloth boards. Externally, smart. There is some bumping to the extremities and to the head and tail of the spine. On the spine, this has caused some wear. The front hinge is starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with the exception of some occasional spotting, particularly to the endpapers. The tissue guard to the frontispiece is present and intact. Good
