Philadelphia: Peterson, 1870. Hardcover. Good +. Previous owner's penciled name and date 1870 on the first white page. Facsimile autograph of Dickens on 2nd white page. Frontis portrait with tissue. Numbered pages 17 to 484, then 6 pages on the "Dickens controversy", then several pages of ads for other Peterson publications. Book includes Mudfrog Association papers which had not yet appeared in England. Green cloth boards with gold titles stamped on front and spine and gold illustrations on spine; brown endpapers. Cloth is worn through at bottom corners, and has wear at edges and folds. Couple of 1/8" tears and wear at top of spine. Book is clean and straight.
