About This Item

Text is clean and unmarked. The Alta Edition. Gilt lettering on the spine is bright and clear. Hinge is cracked at the title page but all pages are firmly attached. Frontispiece of Napoleon is included. Red ribbon place marker is attached. Outer edges of the text block are age toned. From the Preface, "We trust that the object of our undertaking to furnish a correct view of the life of Napoleon, public, political, and private, has been obtained to the utmost extent of the limits prescribed; and that the 'Citizen', the 'Soldier,' and the 'Man,' have been faithfully exhibited. Napoleon, if not great in his beginning, was great in his career - great in his fall but never so great as his patience and magnanimity have shown him in his captivity."
