Some of his tales telling of extraordinary events and phenomena such as the conjuring of a legion of devils in the Colosseum; all in a self-assured, engaging language. The memoirs also provide a valuable source of information on the history of the sixteenth century.Documenting the life between 1558, when Cellini was fifty-eight, until his abrupt death in 1563, just before his last trip to Pisa. Translated from the Italian by John Addington Symonds from Cellini's own memoirs, which are considered to be one of the most important documents of the sixteenth century. The fifth edition of this work. With mezzotint portrait of the artist to frontispiece and sixteen reproductions of Cellini's works. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally smart with minor shelf wear only, bumped to head and tail of spine. With B.C.J.G. Knight's ex libris bookplate to front pastedown. Neatly crossed out previous ownership ink inscription to a front blank lead, dated 1902. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Very Good Indeed
