London: Chapman and Hall Hardcover, rebound in modern half-tan leather over marbled paper covered boards. 624 pages. 40 plates by Phiz [H.K. Browne]. New end-papers . All edges marbled. No previous ownership marks, no book-plate, just a touch of sporadic foxing to text, plates very clean. An early printing of this novel, first published in 1844. Pound sign on vignette title is in "correct" second state and errata page has 14 lines as per later printing. There are no dates on either title-page or engraved half title page. Presumed mid century printing circa 1850. A very clean, tight, copy in well executed modern leather binding. Spine has four raised bands and twin dark brown leather spine labels. Marble paper covered boards are boldly colored and are in excellent condition with no shelf-wear whatsoever. Overall a near fine copy with a very handsome shelf appearance.. Later Printing. Half-Leather. Near Fine. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
