About This Item

Pittsburg, 1852. Bifolium, 4to; text printed on pp. [1]-2 only; printed on blue paper; very light foxing and toning along edges, a near fine copy. Smith writes back from Pittsburg, after the close of the Pittsburg Convention, informing the Madison County Liberty Party of his fruitless labors at the convention: "I came to the Convention with very little hope, that it would take what I deem to be the proper ground of a political party. It has not taken it distinctly--perhaps not at all." He goes on to explain why he refused to vote for the Pittsburg platform, and why he opposed the candidacy of Hale and Julian.
