Philadelphia: J. B. Lippincott Company, 1865. First edition. Hardcover. Good. First ed. 1865. Good hardcover. Octavo (standard size). Blue cloth with "Prison Life in Richmond" on gilt on spine. Some wear to edges and corners of boards. Corners bumped. Large white stain on front cover, possibly paint, and a much smaller one at rear. Wear to head and heel of spine. Foxing to pages, especially at the first and last 15-20 p. of the book. A few signatures loose, but not detached. Embossed stamp of "St. Clair and Hurst Stationers" in New York city on endpaper. (11) 200 p. w/ illustrations, appendix of fellow prisoners "requesting" he publish the "sketches illustrative of our life in this prison". A collection of anecdotes and stories about Cavada's time in Libby Prison, Virginia. Cavada was in the 114th Pennsylvania Infantry and was captured at the Peach Orchard on July 2. After his release he finished he war with whis regiment.. Later he joined the Cuban Liberation Army and became Commander-in-chief of its forces. He was captured at Camagüey, Cuba while planning an invation of the island, and executed on July 1 1871.
