John Wycliffe was one of the most important and influential English church reformers whose 14th-century philosophical views shaped what would become Protestantism. In the 19th-century, Robert Vaughan published an account of Wycliffe's life and work focusing on the state of the Christian church, influences of Judaism, notable prayers, denouncing pagan customs and rituals, and the necessity of religion in politics. Vaughan also describes the role of the Pope and the feuds between Catholics and the Church of England.
