Covers the period of his life from age 20-53, his period of diplomacy as private secretary to his father, the US ambassador to England during the Civil War, his experience as a professor at Harvard and then journalist, with lacunae surrounding the suicide of his wife, but does include some letters to his longtime unconsummated lover Elizabeth Cameron. #01014.
