About This Item

U S A: Columbia University Press, 1974. Hardback. First Edition. Letters of Hart Crane and His Family. Slight foxing to edge. Slight shelf wear to edge of D/J. Sunned spine to D/J. This book includes all the extant correspondence between Hart Crane and his mother, Grace Hart Crane, his father, Clarence Arthur Crane, and his grandmother, Elizabeth Belden Hart. Though some of the letters from Crane to his famikly appeared in an earlier collection, they were not always printed in their entireity; this edition restores the complete text of those letters and introduces many previously unpublished letters. By presenting both sides of the correspondence Professor Lewis has provided a more complete picture of Crane's relationship with his family and of the forces that played a part in his personal and poetic development. Any admirer of Crane's poetry will find this a fascinating documentary of the poet's development, what he thought, where he went, whom he met, and what he did from day to day. On another level the reader will find much of interest in those passages in the letters that are related to Crane's poetry. And, overall, these letters chronicle the story of the brilliant child of an American family and his tragic life. 675 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions, Reference books ,and all types of Academic Literature.) . First Edition. Cloth. Very Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" Tall Octavo. Hardback.
