London: Baldwin, Cradock, and Joy, 1815. Fine Binding. Good. 8" by 5". None. A collection of letters on Christian Religion by mathematician and author Olinthus Gilbert Gregory. In two volumes. Olinthus Gregory was one of the founders of the astronomical society. He published several works on mathematics including Mathematics for Practical Men and Hints for the Use of Teachers of Elementary Mathematics. He is best known for his biography of Robert Hall. His letters discuss his views on the doctrine and scripture of Christianity. Some of the letter titles are 'The folly and Absurdity of Deism', 'On the Inspiration of Scripture', 'On the Depravity of Human Nature' and 'On Eternal Existence after Death.' In diced calf bindings. Externally, smart. The spines are rubbed with some loss to the heads and tails of spines. Both front joints are starting but firm with the rear joint to volume I starting but firm. Front hinges to both volumes are slightly strained but firm. Rear hinge to volume I slightly strained but firm. Ink inscriptions to the title pages of both volumes. To volume I, John Hill, the gift of his friend W Bridges Sept 1822 and to volume II, John Hill. Both volumes are firmly bound. Pages are bright with scattered spots throughout, heavier to the first and last few pages. Good
