About This Item
London: C. and J. Robinson, 1803. 3rd Ed. . Half-Leather & marbled boards. VG(+). 12 Cms x 20 Cms. Vol.1:xv+431; Vol.2:iv+452, fore- and bottom edges red-speckled, top edges dark tinted; both volumes internally excellent being clean, tight and entirely unmarked with good gutters and no browning except spotting to Vol.2 rear endpaper+pastedown, which are brown anyway; covers with gilt-decorated panelled spines and good gilt-lettered black spine labels both have light rubbing to marbled boards and the leather corners mostly have some surface loss and slight corner rubbing, spine ends also slightly rubbed and a some loss of leather surface sheen in places, but no affecting gilt which is all bright and intact, edges all have odd spots of rubbing. A very nice set of this quite important work on education attemtping to incorporate many of the latest British philosophical ideas in a constructive fashion. Both volumes have 'Additional Notes and Observations', one to Vol.2 reprinting an 1803 dated letter from a correspondent, while in Vol. 1 they begin 'Since the publication of the First Edition...',; these additions are all, or in part, unique to this edition thus presumably rendering it the prefered one. The 2nd edition appeared 1801-2 but I cannot date of first from British Library catalogue. Reprinted fairly often during early 19th century. Note: quoted shipping rates are calculated for 500-700 gram net weight, cost will be modified up or down as appropriate outside this range.
