Nella Stamperia Di Antonio Agnelli, 1751. First Edition. Trade Paperback. Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Wear to spine (detaching at spine edge of upper wrapper); slight stains, rubbing and browning to wrappers (chiefly to inner wrappers); previous owners' ink inscriptions (chiefly on title page and first preliminary leaf); some internal browning and/or foxing (chiefly to preliminaries). 179, [1] pages. Text principally in Italian (some passages and colophon imprimatur in Latin). Short historical overview of titles of nobility in Italy, their origins, uses and abuses (the last category with particular reference to the Spanish) by the noted Jesuit scholar (1695-1756) and professor at the University of Padua. Includes bibliographical references (in footnotes). Not located in BMC (but see volume 20, page 1139, columns 22-23 for other works). Apparent presentation copy, inscribed in the third person in black ink at foot of title page: 'Del Consig: Cammillo Piombanti / [unidentified abbreviation] dono dell'Autore'. With various signatures and inscriptions by at least 2 members of the Polliato family (possible heirs?) on title page recto and verso, with dates of 1852 and 1874 present (also on lower wrapper, dated January 19, 1874).Decorative Initials.
