Paris, France: August 15, 1930., 1930.. Fine. - Letter penned in blue ink on 1-1/4 sides of a sheet of cream-colored Ministere des Colonies letterhead folded once to form 4 sides, each 8-1/4 inches high by 5-1/4 inches wide, with the address printed at the top of the first side. Signed "Tres cordialement / F Pietri". Folded once for mailing. Fine <p>A friendly letter, written in French and realized in a secretarial hand, is addressed to "Mon jeune et lontain ami". Pietri sends this young and far-off friend his photograph [not here present] and apologizes for the delay. "Voici ma photographie, avec une pensee qui n'a d'autre merite que d'etre sincere."<p>Born in Corsica, Francois Pietri [1882-1966] was selected for the French Civil Service in 1906 as an auditor and progressed through the ranks to Director of Finances for Morocco, a post he held from 1917 to 1924. He was then elected to the National Assembly and remained in office there until 1942. During that period he held numerous ministerial posts in the French Third Republic, including Finance Minister and, at the time of this letter, Minister of Colonial Affairs. He remained in French politics during the Nazi occupation of France, serving as the Vichy ambassador to Spain from 1940 to 1944.
