Description:
Home & Van Thal Ltd., 1946. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good/price-clipped. 16mo, brown cloth, 34 pages, inked Xmas 1946 inscription on front pastedown; light spot on top panel of dj. Laver was a poet, novelist, critic and reviewer; but, he was also a Curator for the Victoria & Albert Museum. There his fascination for dating photographs by the clothes lead to him becoming a fashion historian. In 1927 he co-hosted the first television program on fashion history. This work is something of a sequel to that effort. "Why do we wear the clothes we do? There is, I am afraid, no very short or easy answer."
