Where the first volume brough Hemingway from childhood to his 1921 marriage to Hadley Richardson, this volume vividly recaptures his early ex-patriate years in Paris, when he published his first important collection of stories "In Our Time" as well as his finest novel "The Sun Also Rises". This work provides intimately detailed rendering of the subject's life, replete with physical detain--the sights and sounds of working class Paris, skiing trip to the Austrian Alps, the running of the bulls in Pamplona, etc as well as of his friendships wigth Gertrude Stein, Scott Fitzgerald, Ezra Pound, and Maxwell Perkins.
