About This Item
Synopsis
Leonardo Da Vinci and A Memory of His Childhood by Sigmund Freud is a post-humous, psychoanalytic study of the early childhood of Leonardo da Vinci, based on his paintings. It was written and published in 1910. This monograph was Freud's only extended attempt at a psychoanalytic biography. Leonardo da Vinci, as an example of the scientific minds of his times, was of great interest to Freud, who identified with his passion for scientific investigation and research. In this early, subjective text, Freud defines many of the concepts that would later create the basis of his fame within his field. One of the infamous mistakes in this text is due to a translation error in which "kite" was translated into "vulture," causing Freud's mythological references to vultures as relates to Da Vinci's homosexuality and libido to be inaccurate. German title: Eine Kindheitserinnerung des Leonardo da Vinci
