About This Item

Free Press, 2006. First edition. Hardcover. As New/as new. As new in dust jacket. First edition/printing. Hardcover. 498 pp. with bibliography, index. Illustrated with photographs. The first full-length biography of one of the most remarkable but also overlooked literary figures of the 20th century, Leonard Woolf. The "dark star" of the Bloomsbury Group, he was the husband of Virginia Woolf. From a prosperous Jewish London family, Leonard attended Trinity College where he became an intimate of the group of vivid personalities who would form the core of the Bloomsbury Group including Toby Steven who would introduce him to his sister Virginia. The biographer looks in detail at the unconventional marriage between Leonard and Virginia during which Leonard would support her through her breakdowns and in her writing.
