About This Item

Brunswick, Maine: Bowdoin College Museum of Art, 1965. Unique. Hardcover. Near Fine. Unique. Hardcover. "This is the first full-scale exhibition of the work of a major contemporary American artist to be held in the seventy-year history of the Bowdoin College Museum Of Art". Includes an original woodblock print "Hendrick Goltzius,"found here signed by the artist. Designed by Baskin, typography by Stinehour Press, printed by Meriden Gravure Co. and including 35 sculptures, 23 drawings, 9 prints and 17 Gehenna Press imprints.
A unique copy, apparently bound by/for Baskin, for a noted collector and friend J. Poindexter. Letter suggests an exchange that this volume appears to manifest...also representing the first contact of a relationship that spanned years. Interesting connection bridging artist, collector, and institution. Minor shelf/edge wear, else tight, bright, and unmarred. Full black leather binding with LB in blind at front and spine, black ribbon bound in, marbled endpapers, one plate printed from the block, "Hendrick Goltzius" [found here signed] (Fern 433). 8vo. 106pp. Illus. (b/w plates). Laid in letter, bound in pamphlet.
