About This Item

One of the first appearances in Czech of Lenin's key strategic treatise (another translation, by Josef Reiner, was published by Fr. Borový that same year). Ironically, this work on the inadequacies of social democracy was published by the journal "Sociální demokrat." However, the list of other publications by the same publisher shows that its affinities were, in fact, far more radical. They include Bucharin's communist program, the constitution of the USSR, and numerous works on the Russian Revolution, as well as a negative work about the Czechoslovak Legion. With a striking drawn wrapper incorporating Soviet insignia and showing a worker triumphantly hissing the red flag atop a globe covered in red... The Czech National Library catalog identifies the translator, who is not mentioned in the book, as K. Horváth. Of the present edition, KVK and OCLC show copies at the Czech National Library, IISG, and Nanterre.
