La Haye,: Henri Scheurleer,, 1734.. [ii, blank], [xii], 186, [xlvi], [ii, blank] pp. Small 8vo (10,5 x 16,5 cm.). Contemporary full marbled calf, spine with 5 raised bands, in compartments gilt tooled with floral ornaments, gilt lettered on a morocco label; marbled endpapers. A very nice copy. First edition of the French translation (The Ancient Physician's Legacy to his Country). Thomas Dover seem to be the only buccaneer-physician in the medical literature. He was best known as Dr. Quicksilver. At pages 20-21 we find the receipy for the famous 'Dover's Powder' (Opium and its derivates among others). The last 42 pages are: CATALOGUS LIBRORUM qui venales extant apud H. Scheurleer, Bibliop.... Rare, according to the Worldcat, only 4 copies held in libraries worldwide!
