The first edition. Rebound in half calf with beautiful gilt detail by Sotheran. With the original cloth front cover bound in. A widely popular set of Scottish Jacobite ballads by William Edmondstoune Aytoun. With a short historical introduction. Aytoun was a Scottish poet and professor at the University of Edinburgh whose work featured regularly in, 'Blackwood's Magazine'. 'Lays of the Scottish Cavaliers', is his best known work, and the poem which gained him his reputation. The half title page is present. With a bookplate for one, 'Oliver Brett', to the front paste-down. Rebound in half calf by Sotheran. Externally, smart with some rubbing to the extremities. Light marks to the boards. Bookplate to the front paste-down. Light offsetting to the edges of the front free endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages age-toned but otherwise bright and clean. A few scattered spots towards the front of the book. Very Good
