About This Item
New Haven: Yale University Press, 1940. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine/near fine. 171 pp, indexed. As-new copy in a price-clipped dust jacket with slight creasing to the upper front panel. The Storrs Lectures on Jurisprudence, Yale School of Law, January, 1940. From the jacket: "An individual at law is not only a person, but the center of an astonishingly complex series of interrelationships. Since his case may involve the interests of hundreds of people, the lawyers' and the courts' jobs are firmly bound into the social structure of the time without, however, either the lawyers or the judges possessing anything like the expert psychological and sociological knowledge that could be used in making decisions. Professor Radin presents the law as a very humane instrument, inept in many ways, but no more so than the humane society from which it springs. ".
