Foreword by Roscoe Pound Dean of Harvard University Law School. "My first advice to the beginner in the study of law has always been to buy a good law dictionary and turn to it constantly. It was the custom formerly to give an elementary course in which everyday terms and ordinary legal conceptions were explained. But law school experience has shown the futility of such courses. The sure way of acquiring an enduring grasp upon legal terminology is to look up every word as it is encountered in the students reading, get its meaning concretely in view of the context, and keep up this process until there is an assured conviction that it is no longer necessary."
