Red boards with gilt illustration of kookaburra in the bottom right front hand corner of the front cover and gilt writing on spine. Previous owner's name on the ffep, original bookseller's sticker of front pasted out, slight darkening of the edges of the text block, minor flecking of the cloth of the front panel. Illustrated dustwrapper, showing a kookaburra on a grey background, red and black writing on front cover. Rubbing to the edges of the dust jacket, chipped missing from the top left-hand corner of the rear panel, 0.75 inch tear at the top left of the spine. Price clipping, tape repair visible from the underside. Miles Franklin had an interest in all things Australian, particularly Australian literature. This book is based on lectures about Australian literature. "her unconventional judgments may shock, they will always interest, those who have accepted traditional opinion."
