No dustwrapper, wear to the spine ends and corners of blue cloth-covered boards, original owner's bookplate inside front board and on old bookseller's ink stamp on f/ep, binding just starting to loosen at title page, otherwise a not too bad copy of this hard-cover book. Deals with four cases of men wrongly convicted of various crimes in the nineteenth century. Nameley: Adolf Beck (wrongfully convicted of Fraud in the 1890s), Joseph Lesurques (executed for his part in a mail coach robbery in the 1790s, although it was later found he was nowhere near the scene), Emile de La Ronciere (convicted of Rape in 1835, although the ''victim'' was later known to have lied), and Pierre Vaux (convicted of Arson and sent to the penal colony in French Guiana in 1852). 281pp.. Hard Cover. Fair/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
