About This Item
From back cover: "We have lost the last hero," exclaimed President Eisenhower when William J. Donovan died in February 1959. Lawyer, politician, soldier, spymaster of legendary dimensions, Donovan first made his mark in the U.S. cavalry in Mexico, chasing Pancho Villa' distinguished himself in France in World War I, winning not only the sobriquet "Wild Bill" but a half-dozen of the highest military medals, including the Congressional Medal of Honor; became acting attorney general of the United States' personally won a number of landmark Supreme Court decisions' ran for governor of New York/ and, most importantly, founded and directed during World War II America's first intelligence agency, the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), the precursor of the CIA.
Good condition. Front cover has soft crease at bottom corner. Both covers have a little rubbing/bumping. There is a little bit of edge/corner wear. There is a bit of light soiling to the closed book page edges. Biggest issue is the cover to spine glue has partly come loose (I expect that would be an easy fix). The page block is still tight. Text is clean. A good reading copy.
