Lincoln, UK: Hedley Slack & Co, 1916. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good. A 38 page poem written by a soldier, one of four partners in a rubber estate which they had developed from the jungle. Three leave to fight in the Great War in Europe, leaving one behind. The remaining one is killed in the Singapore Mutiny, while two others die in the war, leaving the author in England longing for Malaya - . A glossary of Malay words is included. "I see a land, but if I but close my eyes, A land that's ever young, that's ever green, Whose splendid mountains, reaching to the skies, Ridge after ridge, all jungle covered, rise; A land once you've seen You must return to..." Weight 0.4kg. Post free within Malaysia There is heavy tanning of the end papers and minimal tanning throughout. Rough cut page edges. The gilt titling is still clear and there is a small stain on the back cover.
