Spine slightly cocked, boards lightly soiled, ink name on front free endpaper and on title page. 1944 Hard Cover. vii, 248 pp. Color frontispiece and black-and-white illustrations by Marguerite Kirmse, well-known for her depictions of dogs. Inspiration for the 1943 film starring Roddy McDowall, which led to a series of seven. The character of Lassie was originally introduced in short pieces Knight wrote for The Saturday Evening Post beginning in 1938. The name Lassie has become synonymous with the distinctive look of the rough collie.
