Jacket shows light edgewear, no rubbing. "The complete text of one of Broadway's most distinguished hits of the year". First presented at the Longacre Theatre in NYC on Nov 17, 1955. Performers included Christopher Plummer, Boris Karloff, Julie Harris, Theodore Bikel and Bruce Gordon. Quite a cast of future stars. Several B&W photos. Orig b/c brochure is included.

Anouilh seems to claim in the introduction that it's intended mainly as entertainment, but it does add historical insights unavailable elsewhere (as far as I know). For example: People like to talk about Joan as one of the inventors of nationalism, but was she also one of the inventors of humanism?
