About This Item
Beacon Press. Boston. 1999. Marian Wright Edelman was the first and only Black woman lawyer in Mississippi in those turbulent years after graduation from the Yale Law School in 1963 and admission to the Mississippi Bar in 1964. Her first job was with the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, working on civil rights issues during the Mississippi Freedom Summer of 1964. She moved to Washington D.C. in 1968 where she helped organize the Poor People's Campaign of Martin Luther King. In 1973, she founded the Children's Defense Fund. In 2020, Edelman became president emerita of the Children's Defense Fund. Quarter-bound in black with black boards and gold lettering on spine, the book is in collectible condition. The book contains numerous inscriptions from a gathering organized by a ministerial fellowship committee in 2008.
