About This Item

1880 DOGS 1ed Sir Edwin Landseer ART Painting Horses Animals Bunnies Deer Folio

A scarce first edition of the 'Landseer Series of Picture Books' art collection. This contains sixteen gorgeous linen-backed chromolithographic colored plates by esteemed English artist, Sir Edwin Landseer. Landseer's iconic style is on full display in this volume, featuring pastoral scenes and animals such as stags, rabbits, horses, and of course dogs that made his art popular during his lifetime. Of particular note is the inclusion of the piece "A Distinguished Member of the Humane Society," which portrays the breed of Newfoundland dog that came to share his name.
